John Castillo enlisted in the U.S. Army over 30 years ago in 1985, and reenlisted in 1993. He became a veteran in 1995. Upon his return to civilian life, John became a paramedic in 1995, serving his community as a first responder. In 2001, he became a firefighter. During his tenure as a first responder, John has served the community in cities spanning Hidalgo County.

In 2017, John was diagnosed with cancer, and he is currently undergoing treatment through a clinical study. Currently his wife, Lesvilla, is the family’s main provider. John and Lesvilla are the proud parents of two daughters, Ashley, 18, and Leane, 20, both juniors at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The hardworking Castillos are faced with daunting medical bills and travel expenses from their trips to MD Anderson in Houston. They currently rent a mobile home, but by becoming homeowners through the Building Hope for a Hero Initiative, their living costs will be significantly reduced and will give John and his family peace of mind, allowing them to focus their efforts on his wellbeing and recovery.

We’re respectfully asking for you to support the Castillo Family by making a donation. Our goal is to raise $40,000 for the home, and we hope you will be able to support this local, well-deserving family. Your generosity will make a difference in our community, one family at a time, starting with the Castillo Family.

Please remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of its size.

Thank you in advance for your support to make John’s dream of a home for his family become a reality.

Sincerely,

Wayne Lowry
